Heated floors

Nothing says “vacation luxury” quite like stepping onto a warm bathroom floor when it's freezing outside. We installed the Schluter DITRA-HEAT system because there's nothing like the shock of cold tile to ruin a cozy morning. We have it in our own home, and the funny thing is you never think about it — until you accidentally step on the unheated strip beside the toilet, and your toes immediately fire off a thank-you note to your brain.

You'll find heated floors in the primary bathroom and the shared bathroom upstairs.

Using the thermostat

Each heated bathroom has its own smart touchscreen thermostat right on the wall — think of it as a tiny tablet for your toes. It's very intuitive:

  1. 1Tap the screen to wake it — you'll see the current floor temperature.
  2. 2Tap the up or down arrows to set your perfect warmth.
  3. 3Give it a few minutes. Unlike a light switch, radiant heat takes a little time to rise through the tile — so if you turn it up, let it work its magic.
The floors are pre-programmed to stay toasty on a daily schedule. A manual change just holds your setting until the next scheduled time — so adjust away, you can't break anything.
