Getting In
Unlocking the door

Let's get you inside. The locks took us a minute to get used to the first time, so we've written this out in detail — once you've done it once, it's second nature.

The Yale Assure keypad lock
This is the lock you'll find on all three doors.

All three doors use a Yale Assure keypad lock — it was the only digital lock compatible with the Andersen doors we chose for the cabin. We're still getting used to them ourselves, but honestly, they're growing on us.

The three doors

You're welcome to enter through any of the three — use whichever is closest to where you park:

  • Basement door — right to your left as you go up the first set of stairs.
  • French doors — keep going up the second set of stairs and you'll see them on your left.
  • Back door — around the back of the cabin.
All three have the same keypad lock and use the same code we provided you. If one ever seems unresponsive, just walk to another door.

Unlocking when you arrive

  1. 1Place your palm flat over the keypad. This 'wakes' the lock and lights up the numbers. (It usually works even if you skip this — but it's the reliable way to start.)
  2. 2Enter your private code on the keypad — the one we sent you.
  3. 3Press the check button (✓) at the bottom.
  4. 4You'll hear the lock disengage. Wait until it fully finishes before opening the door.

Give it a beat. The motor needs a moment to fully retract the bolt — if you pull on the handle too early, it can feel stuck. Wait for the sound to finish, then open.

Locking from the inside

Settling in for the night? You can simply turn the deadbolt by hand. But here's the slightly non-intuitive part: for the most secure lock on these patio doors, lift up on the door handle first, then turn the deadbolt. Lifting the handle engages the door at multiple points.

Locking up when you leave

Heading out for the day? Pull the door firmly closed, then place your palm flat over the keypad (or simply touch it). The lock will activate and you'll hear the bolt drive home. Give it a moment and confirm it's locked before you walk away.

If a door won't respond

This is very rare, but if a keypad seems dead, the simplest fix is to try one of the other two doors — it's extremely unlikely all three would have an issue at once. If you're ever truly locked out, call or text us right away and we'll get you in. We keep a backup power source on hand for the locks, and we'll walk you through it.
